Hemorrhoid is a condition that can develop in any individual, both men and women, but more so in women. This is because it is a common problem experienced during pregnancy.
There are no known serious health complications that can result from hemorrhoids, but this alone will be a very irritating problem for the sufferer.
All About Hemorrhoids
It is believed that hemorrhoids are a result of swollen up veins or continuous high pressure and strain placed on the veins present in the anal and rectal regions. While this may be the case, there is also another theory that explains the occurrence of hemorrhoids better.
The anal canal contains a lining with three moist, elastic, and soft tissue pads, that aids in keeping us humans from leaking fecal matter when the urge to use the toilet increases. These pads also contain a tiny network of blood vessels. When there is a prolapse in either of these three pads happening, due to weakening of its surrounding tissues that provides support to it, the vessels present within gets filled up with blood, swelling it up in the process. This will be the source of discomfort and pain for the person, especially at times of a bowel movement, since the prolapsed soft pad gets pushed further down the anal canal as fecal matter is passed.
There are two types of hemorrhoids – a) internal and b) external.
Internal hemorrhoid seldom has any symptom presentation, since they remain within the anal canal at all times. These may be pushed down when fecal matter is passed, but will return back to its original position after some time.
In the case of external hemorrhoids though, the tissue pad gets pushed out during a bowel movement, and stays there without going back by itself. This is a rather painful variant of hemorrhoids, that will require severe medical help.
There are several treatment methods available for effective hemorrhoid cure. Besides these, hemorrhoids can be cured and prevented with making certain dietary changes.
Diet for Treating Hemorrhoids
– Include fiber-rich foods into the patient’s daily diet to keep the stools soft for easy elimination and to avoid straining. Plant foods are rich in dietary fiber; thus, green leafy vegetables, mushrooms, corn, beans, berries and oranges will need to be consumed on a frequent basis.
– Consume more of fresh fruit and vegetable juices for these are known to contain soluble fibers. Wheatgrass juice is especially useful in treating constipation related problems, even hemorrhoids. This is rich in natural substances that will keep the bowels moving, prevent cells and body tissues from early aging, and aid in adequate weight loss.
– Hemorrhoid sufferers should eat more of plant products and minimize meat consumption. Meat and meat products are low in dietary fibers.
– Avoid foods that are refined and excessively processed, since these will not only be deficient in nutrients, beneficial fibers will also be lost during the processing.
– Alcohol consumption is also not recommended for people suffering from piles, since alcohol has a diuretic effect that can leave the person extremely dehydrated when water intake is not increased. This in turn will lead to constipation and hemorrhoid development.
Once certain lifestyle and dietary changes are made by hemorrhoid sufferers, and when they are followed earnestly, in all probability they will never have to experience this problem ever again.
